Stop the attacks on Bishop T and his church, SAINT MARTIN DE PORRES CATHOLIC CHURCH OF THE AMERICAS!

Bishop Filipe Teixeira, OFSJC has been on the front lines of battles for justice in Brockton, Boston, and throughout the region and the country. He has marched shoulder to shoulder with people’s movements fighting against racism, police brutality, sexism, anti-Muslim and anti LGBTQ bigotry. He has fought tirelessly for the rights of Immigrants, workers and unions, people with disabilities, for fully funded public education. He has been a stanch defender of the Black and Brown communities. His militant outspoken advocacy has earned him the hatred of oppressors and exploiters from Brockton to Boston to Washington DC. Bishop T, and his congregation need our solidarity in action NOW!
Statement of Bishop T; “On April 19, 2017, after a nearly decade long legal battle,  Brockton Housing court ORDERED the demolition of our religious sanctuary within sixty days for the false politically motivated racist charge of failure to meet the building code/permit and safety issues. Brockton is seeking to silence an out spoken Religious leader by closing the Parish/Church, a well-known self-declared sanctuary congregation that is a pillar of support to Brockton’s Immigrant community.  This is a clear violation of freedom of speech, assembly and worship. We have been fighting this injustice for over 20 years. This is the second time that the Brockton establishment has made our congregation “homeless”. When we were unjustly evicted from St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in 2006 for the “crime” of feeding the poor, our congregation with solidarity from our supporters build our current church.  We have been battling in Brockton court since then, represented by our wonderful Peoples lawyer, John Pavlos. John is now exploring all legal tactics.  It was the people that built our church, we have faith that it will be the people, our congregation with solidarity from all of our supporters who will defend our church now!  We call on all of you to join our just struggle to Save our Church!  We will be waging a multifaceted campaign. Stay tuned. For now, please call Mayor Bill Carpenter to demand he STOP the demolition of our church! PHONE: (508) 580-7123 EMAIL: BillCarpenter@cobma.us Brockton City Hall 45 School Street Brockton, Mass. 0230”
Bishop T has demonstrated his concrete solidarity with all the peoples struggles and movements, It's time for the movement to demonstrate Solidarity in Action for him and his church. An Injury to One is an Injury to all!
